  [据美国航天网近日报道] 蓝源公司亚轨道飞行器名为“新谢帕德号”(New Shepard)。飞行器由乘员舱和推进模块两个可重复使用的部分组成。发射后几分钟推进模块分离并返回地球,最终在发射场火箭动力垂直着陆在发射场附近。乘员模块设计能携带三人以上,划过天际后返回地球,将张开降落伞缓慢降落。
  
  蓝源公司为“新谢帕德号”设想了多种用途,如运送太空游客,并希望科学家预定飞行,以便将实验送往太空。研制成功后,“新谢帕德号”将允许人们更快、更高效地进入太空。一个很小的地面团队为系统设计实现快速转弯进行了优化。这个团队只有几十人,相对而言从前的可重复使用飞行器需要数千人。
  
  2006年以来,蓝源公司已经利用亚轨道试验飞行器进行了多次飞行,2011年进行了两次亚轨道飞行。2011年第二次飞行于8月24日进行,但以失败告终。PM2飞行器在飞至14千米的高空后坠毁。

KENT, Wash. (Blue Origin PR) – Blue Origin conducted a successful Pad Escape test last week at its West Texas launch site, firing its pusher escape motor and launching a full-scale suborbital Crew Capsule from a launch vehicle simulator. The Crew Capsule traveled to an altitude of 2,307 feet under active thrust vector control before descending safely by parachute to a soft landing 1,630 feet downrange.

                 
Blue Origin’s novel pusher escape system has been designed and developed to allow full-envelope crew escape in the event of an emergency on ascent for its suborbital New Shepard system.  As part of an incremental development program, the results of this test will inform the design of the escape system for its orbital Space Vehicle. Traditional tractor escape systems are not compatible with reuse. Blue Origin’s pusher escape system is a key enabler of full-vehicle reusability, as well as improving the safety of human access to space.

Blue Origin is testing the pusher escape system in partnership with NASA under the Commercial Crew Development (CCDev) program. As part of CCDev, Blue Origin earlier this year completed the System Requirements Review of its Space Vehicle, designed to provide safe, affordable transport of up to seven astronauts to low-Earth orbit and the International Space Station, as well as a full-power test firing of the thrust chamber for its new 100,000 lbf BE-3 LOX/LH2 engine.

后补:
    在刚刚过去的10月中旬左右,他的 可重复使用发动机(Reusable Booster System (RBS))完成测试热点火.

   ...has successfully fired the ...BE-3  ....RBS....

虽然完成NASA在CCDev-2中的里程碑,但是却晚了几个月,不知道NASA会付钱吗?

又是个推式LAS,这设计现在美国很流行啊~

这是首个完成pad abort test的推进式LAS,至少目前Blue Origin走在了SpX和波音的前面

一则旧闻,BO于本月上旬在斯坦尼斯的E1测试场完成45吨级氢氧引擎BE3的TCA测试,这也是CCDev2的一个mile stone,详情和图片看下面的链接

从尾炎看,BO应该是固体推式LAS。SpaceX和波音都用的液体方案,更复杂些吧~

在与NASA扩展的合作(协议)下,点火新发动机,上周与NASA签署扩展CCDev2非投资协议,一直到2014中期。

Blue Origin successfully fires the thrust chamber assembly for its new 100,000 pound thrust BE-3 liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen rocket engine. As part of the company’s Reusable Booster System (RBS), the engines are designed eventually to launch the biconic-shaped Space Vehicle the company is developing in collaboration with NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.

Meanwhile, NASA and Blue Origin signed an agreement last week to extend their Commercial Crew Development Round 2 (CCDev2) partnership in an unfunded capacity. Between now and mid-2014, the company will continue to advance subsystems for its biconic-shaped spacecraft. The company also will test fire its liquid-oxygen and liquid-hydrogen fueled BE-3 engines at its West Texas Launch Site. This CCDev2 extension will allow NASA to provide expert feedback to Blue Origin as the company works through additional milestones.

As one of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program partners, Blue Origin doesn’t get as much attention as Boeing, Sierra Nevada Corporation and SpaceX. That’s partly by design; the secretive company tries to fly under the radar as much as possible.
The other reason is that while Blue Origin received $25.38 million in funding for its orbital vehicle during the first two phases of Commercial Crew, it was not selected for the third round. The company has been working with NASA on an unfunded Space Act Agreement under which the space agency is providing support but not any funding.
To date, Blue Origin has completed 19 of 20 milestones under the three agreements with NASA. There has been significant progress on the pressure vessel, engine and escape system. The table below shows the company’s milestones under the agreements.
